Agra Fort

Agra Fort is the red sandstone fortress the third Mughal emperor Akbar built on the ruins of an earlier stronghold known as Badalgarh. It’s one of the most heavily fortified Mughal strongholds still standing, and — unlike the Taj Mahal — it doesn’t close on Fridays, which makes it a useful stop if your visit happens to fall on one.

Ticket price

Foreign tourists pay ₹650 on regular days, ₹600 on Fridays. SAARC/BIMSTEC nationals pay ₹90 (₹40 Friday); Indian nationals pay ₹50 (₹40 Friday). Children under 15 enter free, all nationalities.

Hours

Agra Fort is open 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, every day of the week — including Fridays, when the Taj Mahal itself is closed.

Getting in

The Amar Singh Gate is the only tourist entry point. Booking online ahead of time (through ASI’s own ticketing channels) shaves a small amount off the price and skips the counter queue in peak season.

Agra Fort is a working complex of palaces, mosques, and courtyards built across multiple Mughal emperors’ reigns, not a single building — expect to spend more time here than a quick photo stop. It’s a recognized UNESCO World Heritage Site, in the same category as the Taj Mahal itself.
