Solo travel isn't a niche anymore. Skyscanner's Travel Trends 2026 report, published in November 2025, found an 83% rise in hotel searches using its "solo" filter — part of a wider shift the report describes as travel becoming more personal and self-directed. The same report found 84% of travelers expect to go abroad as much or more in 2026. For a trip built around one unmissable stop like the Taj Mahal, that shift changes what actually matters when you're booking.

What's actually driving it

Skyscanner ties the solo jump to travelers curating trips around their own interests rather than defaulting to a fixed group itinerary built for the average visitor. Notably, solo doesn't mean isolated: 55% of respondents in the same report said meeting new people was itself a reason to travel. The shift is toward trips shaped around what one traveler actually wants to see and how much time they want to spend there — not toward avoiding people altogether.

The trade-off solo travelers already know

A private guide and a private vehicle cost more per person when there's only one person to split that cost across. That's true everywhere, not just at IWIS Global — book a "private upgrade" on a marketplace listing, or a single-supplement group tour, and you'll see the same math. A solo Taj Mahal visit costing more per person than a group booking isn't a hidden fee; it's the actual cost of one guide and one vehicle for one traveler instead of four.

What is worth comparing: who adds a markup on top of that

Where booking choice actually matters for a solo traveler is whether there's a commission layered on top of that base cost. As our comparison with Viator and GetYourGuide covers, marketplace listings typically bundle a commission into the price you see — the same "private tour" line item can carry a different markup depending on where you book it. Booking directly with the operator actually running the tour, like IWIS Global's Same-Day Taj Mahal Tour or Taj Mahal Sunrise Tour, removes that layer. See our No-Commission Pledge for what that means in practice.

Practical notes for a solo Agra day trip

If the 2026 shift toward more personal, self-directed trips means you're planning a solo stop at the Taj Mahal, browse IWIS Global's tours — all of them are private by default, solo travelers included.
