Mehtab Bagh

Mehtab Bagh is a Charbagh-style Mughal garden directly north of the Taj Mahal, on the opposite bank of the Yamuna River. Its foundation is credited to Babur, the first Mughal emperor — making it one of the earliest Mughal gardens in the area, predating the Taj Mahal itself by roughly a century. In the 1990s, ASI restored the site, replanting it with species brought in to match the original Mughal-era layout.

Ticket price

The foreign-tourist price is ₹300. Mehtab Bagh doesn’t have the Taj Mahal’s marble inlay work or mausoleum chamber — what it has is the view. Standing across the river gives you the Taj Mahal framed by its own reflection in the garden’s pools, without the crowds inside the main complex. It’s a known spot for sunset photography specifically, since the light hits the marble from across the water.
