Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal is the white marble mausoleum Mughal emperor Shah Jahan built for his wife Mumtaz Mahal, on the south bank of the Yamuna River in Agra. It’s Agra’s reason most travelers come at all, and the monument most same-day Delhi trips are built around.

Ticket price

Foreign tourists pay ₹1,100 for complex entry, plus a separate ₹200 ticket to enter the main mausoleum chamber — ₹1,300 total. Indian nationals pay ₹50 + ₹200; SAARC/BIMSTEC nationals pay ₹540 + ₹200. Children under 15 enter free on both tickets, all nationalities. Hours and Friday closures

The monument opens 30 minutes before sunrise and closes 30 minutes before sunset — the exact clock time shifts with the season. It is closed every Friday. Ticket counters run from 1 hour before sunrise to 45 minutes before sunset.

What’s included with your ticket

The foreign-tourist ticket bundles in shoe covers, a 500 ml water bottle, a tourist guide map, and battery-bus transfer from the ticket counter to the gate.

Tripods, drones, food, tobacco, and several other items are banned — see our complete prohibited-items list. Photography is not allowed inside the main mausoleum chamber itself.

Getting there
